Inspirationally speaking with Impact

Inspirationally speaking with Impact Speaking to a group, easier said than done! Presentations often go wrong: the speaker seems to have little or no contact with his audience, the slides confuse more than they clarify, the body language of the speaker reveals how nervous he is, etc. How do I make sure my knowledge and expertise is transferred in an understandable way to my audience? Is a PowerPoint always the best tool to support my presentation? How can I inspire and incite action? What can I do to promote two-way feedback and encourage interaction?

For whom?

For whom?

The course is aimed at anyone who wants to learn how to give compelling presentations.

Why?

  • You want to enlarge your personal persuasiveness, charisma and professionalism in giving presentations.
  • You are looking for some practical tools to get better prepared and to attract and keep the attention of your audience.
  • You would like to share your passion and inspire your audience to go along with your story.

Objectives & results

Objectives

  • You learn which aspects are important in the preparation and setup of your presentation.
  • You get to know the tricks of the trade to really touch your audience with your message.
  • You know how to manage your stress. You go home with tools, instruments and specific answers to your questions.

Flipped programme

The training session consists of 2 days, spread over 3 months.

In advance

  • Ilse will contact you with a video question.
  • Based on a checklist, you will make a personal analysis of strengths and weaknesses. You can also ask your supervisor or a colleague for feedback on your presentation skills by asking them to fill out the same checklist. Based on the two perceptions, you will create a personal development plan and will set your personal goals for the training.
  • You will prepare a presentation of up to 5 minutes, preferably a presentation that you also have to give in real life.

During the training

Both during day 1 and day 2 you will be asked to give a presentation. This presentation will be videotaped and discussed by the trainer and presenter separately.
The other participants will formulate some concrete feedback points on the basis of a checklist. Both strengths and areas for improvement will be discussed. The various topics will be dealt with in between presentations.

Day 1

  • What makes you listen to a speaker, what makes him / her fascinating?
  • Preparation: how do you prepare, what is important, what do you take into consideration?
  • Start of the presentation: what does the audience need in order to be able to listen comfortably and carefully?
  • Building and structuring: through an exercise you will discover the regularities that are the basis of a good, clear structure.
  • Impact of the non-verbal: starting from a comfortable speaking position, we discover how to communicate a specific message, what works and what doesn’t.
  • Dealing with stress: through an exercise you will get insight into the mechanism of ‘stress’, your own inhibiting beliefs and how to bend them.
  • Resources: when and what to use (PowerPoint, flip, Prezi, etc.) and how?

Day 2

The interaction with your audience is the central theme this day. For a second time, you will receive feedback on your way of presenting and get a chance to experiment. We will address specific situations during the presentations and will simulate ‘disturbing’ or ‘difficult’ interactions and interventions. Depending on the expectations of the participants, the following topics can be treated:

  • Critical questions
  • Tackling questions
  • A listener that monopolizes your attention
  • The use of mobile devices
  • Convincing your audience when confronted with resistance

Afterwards

As a community member of Learning Circles:

  • you have access to the shared materials
  • you can contact your trainer for a free consultation.
